NAIROBI Kenya, April 29 – Listed financial services group Britam has promoted Stephen Wandera, the Managing Director of Britam Insurance business in Kenya to the Regional Director, Insurance.

He will be in charge of the insurance businesses in Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan and Rwanda.

While making the announcement, Group Managing Director Benson Wairegi said: “We recently embarked on an ambitious strategy to expand our business regionally and also diversified into property development, while still enhancing the existing businesses of insurance and asset management.

“The implementation of this ambitious strategy requires a new structure, and it was necessary to expand the roles of key senior departmental heads, to represent regional affairs,” he noted.

In Asset Management business, Edwin Sande, who was previously Managing Director Britam Asset Managers Kenya business, will have an additional role of overseeing Asset Management businesses in the region, with his most immediate role being to establish Asset Management business in Uganda, South Sudan and Rwanda.

Gladys Karuri, previously Group Finance Director has been appointed as the Group Finance & Strategy Director in charge of Group Finance, Group Strategy and Shared Service Centre (SSC).

Reuben Kibiru and Nancy Kimani have been appointed as the Principal Officer/General Manager and Chief Accountant of Britam Insurance Company Rwanda respectively, while Carol Misiko has been appointed as Group Risk & Compliance Manager.

“With this new structure, we are optimistic that the Group is now well equipped to fully exploit the growth opportunities available in the region, while providing consumers with high quality products and services,” said Wairegi.
