Kenya Airways wins regional awards

HARARE, Feb 20 -Kenya Airways has scooped top awards at the Africa Investor (Ai) Tourism Investor Awards. KQ was declared the Business Airline of the Year. The award was presented during the prestigious 2010 Africa Investor Tourism Awards held in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Kenya Airways was recognised for the efficiency and effectiveness of its management systems at the awards that had attracted a number of leading airlines from all over Africa.

“We are proud that Kenya Airways is being recognised for its ability to efficiently and consistently deliver a warm, caring, friendly African service to the increasingly discerning customer. This award is testimony to the exemplary service and differentiated experience that we offer our customers, said Kenya Airways, Group Managing Director/CEO Dr. Titus Naikuni.

The Africa investor (Ai) Tourism Investor Awards were created to showcase Africa’s opportunities and achievements in the tourism sector to the rest of the world, collectively raise awareness about Africa as a tourism destination and reward those groups developing the African tourism industry as a vehicle to drive sustainable economic growth.

The awards were presented at a high-profile ceremony attended by over 350 guests, which was officially opened by H.E Amai Joice Mujuru, Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe.  Commenting on the Awards the Vice President commended Africa investor for taking the leadership to establish these innovative awards and congratulated the award nominees and winners for their dedication. 

The shortlisted submissions and candidates in 12 Award categories were judged on the basis of key financial indicators, the sustainability of projects and major value added contributions. All winners faced down significant international competition to emerge as definitive leaders in the tourism industry.
Kenya had multiple victories at the gala dinner with, with Ecotourism Kenya accepting the award in the category Best Initiative in Facilitating SME Tourism Investment; and Mombasa was announced as Tourism City of the Year.
