Kenya allocates land for establishment of Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Centre

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 26 – Kenya has approved the allocation of 10 acres of land and USD 2 million for the establishment of the Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Centre (EA-RCC).

Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha made the announcement Thursday during the 2nd Africa CDC Eastern Africa Regional Ministerial Steering Committee (ReSCO) meeting in Nairobi.

The Health Ministry stated that the centre which over see’s Africa’s CDC partnerships and activities in the 14 Member States of the Eastern Africa region will be located in Nairobi

It is also involved in strengthening surveillance, laboratory systems and public health communications in the region.

“Kenya remains committed to enhancing its capacity to detect and respond swiftly to disease threats and outbreaks, aligning with CDC’s mission,” the Health Ministry said.

The RCCs function as hubs for Africa CDC surveillance, preparedness, and emergency response activities, coordinating regional public health initiatives among Member States.

Director-General of Africa-CDC, Jean Kaseya, lauded Kenya’s endeavors towards achieving Universal Health Coverage and community health during the meeting.
