NAIROBI, Kenya May 17 – Lawrence Njuguna popularly known as DJ Fatxo has been cleared in the murder of his friend Jeff Mwathi.
The court has instead ordered a public inquest to establish the cause of Mwathi’s death.
Mwathi died on February 22 at the home of DJ Fatxo at Redwood Apartments in Kasarani in what was initially said to be suicide.
The death sparked a public outcry that triggered the investigation.
The application for a public inquest was made in court by the Director of Criminal Investigations that established no evidence linking Dj Fatxo, a renown Mugithi star, to the murder.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions concurred with the decision allowing the court to set up an inquest.
Njuguna’s lawyer Duncan Okatch told journalists at Milimani Law Courts that thorough investigations were conducted but no evidence was found.
The lawyer said his client was subjected to a DNA test and forensic experts did not find any link to the murder.
