NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 25- After the passing of former Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, a number of leaders expressed their condolence messages along with their tributes.
Magoha passed on, on Tuesday evening at the Nairobi Hospital where he was rushed after suffering a cardiac arrest at home.
According to a statement from Nairobi Hospital, the late had a cardiac arrest at home before being sent to the hospital, and attempts to resuscitate him failed. He later died as a result.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has mourned Magoha saying he will be remembered as a staunch believer in self-actualization.
“He took to his tasks with gusto and a single-minded determination that’s rare. Many will recall his iron-clad grip on the University of Nairobi as Vice-chancellor, and lately as Cabinet Secretary for Education,” said Mudavadi.
On the other hand, Cabinet Secretary of Defense Aden Duale mourns the former CS saying he will be remembered for the many reforms he brought the education sector in the country.
“The good professor will be remembered for many things, among them, the reforms he brought in the education sector,” Duale said.
Additionally, the Party leader for Kenya African National Union (KANU) Gideon Moi mourns Prof Magoha saying he was the most reliable CS who became outstanding in his performance especially during the time when country was grappling with rampant exam malpractice.
“Prof. George Omore Magoha was an outstanding public servant. In him, Kenya found one of the most reliable Cabinet Secretary for Education who took over at a time when the country was grappling with rampant exam malpractice,” Moi said.
Miguna Miguna, Advocate of the High Court of Kenya has also mourned the late CS Magoha stating that his starling performance as CS Education especially on the management of national exams was unmatched.
“I have learnt of the sudden passing of Prof. Magoha with consternation. Prof. Magoha was a genuine Luopean: disciplined, scholarly, competent and proud. His starling performance as CS Education and especially on the management of national exams is unmatched. Rest In Peace Prof.,” Miguna said.
The National Security Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kenya Monica Juma mourned Prof Magoha stating that he was a dedicated, dutiful and committed patriotic professional.
“Professor Magoha was a dedicated, dutiful, committed patriotic professional that served our nation with distinction and integrity. Kenya is poorer today without him,” she said.
Magoha’s death comes at a time he was preparing to bury his brother who passed on recently.
Magoha served as Cabinet Secretary for Education in former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.
Prior to this appointment, Magoha chaired the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) from 2016 to 2019 which he joined from the University of Nairobi where he had been the Vice-Chancellor since 2005 to 2015.
Upon leaving the government, Magoha was named a professor of surgery at Maseno University School of Medicine.
