The highly anticipated 11th edition of Koroga Festival featuring Congolese superstar Koffi Olomide is just around the corner and the buzz in Nairobi hit an all-time high thanks to the arrival of “Le Grand Mopao” on Friday evening.
“I’m here for Koroga Festival. Thank you Koroga Festival!” Koffi shared exclusively with Capital Lifestyle and Capital FM as he was greeted by a mob of fans and members of the media. “I’m here because of you after 10 years!”
The Congolese soukous singer, producer, and composer began his career as a guitarist, but then joined Papa Wemba’s Viva la Musica as a backing vocalist. Koffi then went solo in the mid-’80s, moving to Paris and making use of both Parisian and Cameroonian soukous musicians – creating his so-called “Tcha Tcho” beat, which became widely popular.
Festivalgoers of the sold-out Koroga Festival on Sunday, March 13th, 2016 at Nairobi’s Arboretum Gardens will definitely be treated to a memorable show with Koffi being accompanied by a 16-person band and dance troupe.
“It’s been ten years since Koffi Olomide has performed in Kenya and we’re [Capital FM] excited to be part of it!” Somoina Kimojino, Programmes Director, Capital FM expressed ahead of Sunday’s sold-out event.
The Koroga Festival is a bi-monthly event and is a great reflection of Kenya’s brilliant and diverse local talent, whilst also showcasing leading artists from all over Africa through music, fashion, food and arts. Previous editions have seen musicians like Ali Kiba, Chameleone, Mi Casa, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Sauti Sol, Mayonde, Papa Wemba, Freshlyground, Oliver Mtukudzi, and Simphiwe Dana, just to name a few; light-up Nairobi’s most popular music festival.
