Travelers love to eat – that’s why every year, as part of their annual Readers’ Choice Awards survey, Condé Nast Traveler ask their readers to rank their favourite food cities around the world.

Representing the continent of Africa, Cape Town, intimately known as “The Mother City” of South Africa, cracked the top 20 cities in the world, finishing third overall in The World’s Best Food Cities: Readers’ Choice Awards 2014.

“In Cape Town, ‘local’ rules. The Mother city is smallish, casual but supremely stylish, and welcoming—words that describe its artisanal foods and restaurant scenes as much as its citizens,” writes Maria Shollenbarger, editor-at-large of Condé Nast Traveler.

Congratulations Cape Town!
