NAIROBI, Kenya Feb 27 – Twenty Australian higher education institutions, along with partners, are set to embark on the ‘Study Australia Education Mission’ in Kenya this week, marking the first of its kind in over four years.
Organized through a collaborative effort between the Australia Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and IDP Education Ltd, a global international education leader, this mission will span across five cities in Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria.
Kenya stands out as the only African country among Australia’s top 20 source countries for international students, reflecting robust post-COVID growth in the sector.
Prospective Kenyan students will be able to engage with representatives from prestigious Australian universities at ‘Study Australia Expos’ in Nairobi and Eldoret.
These expos will offer valuable insights into studying in Australia. Additionally, Australian institutions will hold meetings with education agents, school counsellors, local universities, and industry leaders to explore collaborative and transnational education opportunities further.
Austrade’s recent relocation of its African office to Kenya underscores Australia’s commitment to fostering strong education and trade links in East Africa.
Trade and Investment Commissioner for Africa, Mr. Scott Morriss, expressed Australia’s keen interest in Kenya and the broader African continent as significant long-term sources of destination and partnership for Australian higher education providers.
With Africa projected to host one-quarter of the world’s workforce by 2050, Morrison highlighted the importance of exploring transnational education opportunities with Kenya.
Australian High Commissioner to Kenya, Ms. Jenny Da Rin, emphasized the enduring educational ties between Australia and Kenya. Over the decades, Kenya’s brightest minds have enriched Australia’s schools, vocational institutions, and universities.
Da Rin noted that in 2024, more Kenyan Australian Awards scholarship students will commence their Masters’ programs at leading Australian institutions, further solidifying the people-to-people links between the two regions.
The ‘Study Australia Expos’ are scheduled for Eldoret on February 28 and Nairobi on March 2. For further details, interested individuals can visit IDP Kenya for Eldoret and IDP Kenya for Nairobi.
