Azimio leaders vow to press on with countrywide demonstrations

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 15 – The National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi has reiterated the resolve of Azimio supporters to press further the government to listen to its people.

Wandayi says the government has failed to recognize the sufferings of its people.

He noted that the determination is still intact among Kenyans of good will who are out to push for reforms in the wake of hard economic life.

“Our determination to see to it that this government is driven out of town remains intact,” he said.

Addressing the press at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral hospital in Kisumu where he led a number of MPs to visit victims of Wednesday demonstrations, Wandayi said the spirit for a better country still lives on.

He says the administration has failed in discharging its duties in line with the Constitution.

Wandayi noted that the upcoming demonstrations that were announced yesterday must be successful as part of the interventions to push the government to listen to the cries of Kenyans.

“I want to call upon our supporters in this region to come out next week, for Wednesday, Thursday and Frida demonstrations,” he said.

He promised that the next week’s demonstrations must be effective.

Accompanying the Minority Leader was Seme MP Dr James Nyikal who said the bullet wounds on the victims were not meant to deter them from demonstrations.

Nyikal says all the victims with bullet wounds were shot with the intent to kill.

“The pattern of the wounds that we have seen, they were not deterrent actions but were intended to kill,” he said.

The MP said the wounds were on the hands, upper arms, chest noting that above the arms there are vital organs.

He noted that proper process of doing post mortem for those who died is conducted so that those who were involved are charged

Kisumu Central MP Dr Joshua Oron announced that the County Government of Kisumu will take care of all the hospital bills of those who were hospitalized.

“My office in connection with family members will ensure that drugs which are not available at the hospital are purchased to help the victims,” he said.

Also in the entourage was Muhoroni MP James Koyoo.

The team was in Kisumu ahead of an Azimio assembly in Kisumu East Sub County, where Raila Odinga is expected to attend the event.
