NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 9 — A Twitter account named “Shirlene Ruto” tweeting from the handle “@ShirleneRuto” purporting to belong to the daughter of President William Ruto is fake.
The account that has attracted a tangible number of followers and has been using the photos of Ruto’s daughter has been actively tweeting ever since she became a talk of town.
Charlene is Ruto’s third-born daughter who has emerged as the most outgoing of all, lately making courtesy calls to various county and national government officials.
In December, she caused a stir when she introduced her delegation to Tanzania as members of staff at the Office of the First Daughter.
The move elicited a mix of reactions with agitated Kenyans questioning whether the office was being funded by taxpayers.
In November, she held a series of political engagements with official visits to several county assemblies, held meetings with governors and even flew to Morocco in a visit that touched off a major backlash.
On January 5th when President Ruto had an interview with the media ever since he became the Head of State, the account tweeted “My Dad nailed it. Wachaneni na Mimi. I’m the daughter of the president.”
This Fact Check has found out that the Twitter account is actually illegitimate.
Though unverified, Charlene tweets from @charlruto. The account’s description is the “First Daughter of Kenya”.
The twitter account which is 11 years old and has more than 39,000 followers.
The recent tweet posted on January 1 2023 include her thoughts on 2022.
“2022 taught me to accept who I am. Accept who you are. Embrace & Love that greatness within you, the influence you wield & the compassion you have for others. Accept that you may not always have the answers but you are willing to take the risks to leave your mark in this world.”
