Top Journalists & Industry Players are Coming together to Speak at the 1st Africa Media Festival

Over the last few years, the media landscape has transformed significantly, a change primarily caused by the evolution of technologies, and accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. During this period, information distribution and consumption has seen online news, digital newspapers, ads and magazines become the new norm.

This evolution has also seen advertisers shift from 30-second commercials that were gold standard to content suited for social platforms. While some may argue that media has lost its influence, the existing challenges present media houses with opportunities for innovation and transformation.

This year, Baraza Media Lab, a co-creation hub that provides the space and resources needed to enable media practitioners and entrepreneurs to collaborate, will host the very first Africa Media Festival in Nairobi on the 14th and 15th of February.

The theme of the conference dubbed “Re-imagine Media”, is to create a space for discussions on innovation and forward-thinking initiatives within different facets of media at play. The two-day festival will also see key media sector players come together to debate on media sustainability and a collective way forward in the wake of and infodemic that we are all experiencing globally.

“For more systemic solutions, we will need the sector players to come together and debate on a collective way forward; that’s why the festival intends to create a space for discussions on innovation and forward-thinking initiatives within different facets of media in play,” said, Baraza Media Lab Executive Director, Maurice Otieno.

Speaking and in attendance at the two-day conference will be industry players comprised of investors, grant makers, government representatives, social media networks & content creators, journalists, writers, podcasters and filmmakers.
