Google introduced Android Wear, tailoring of its Android operating system to wearable devices, on Tuesday.

The preview of Android Wear is merely the begininning – something to entice consumers, developers, watchmakers and drive up stocks. Good news for Google: according to The Wall Street Journal, “GoogleGOOG +1.61% looks set to beat AppleAAPL +0.88% to market in a new category of mobile devices — smartwatches.”

LG was the first, introducing the G Watch, set to launch next quarter with Android Wear. Motorola also has since unveiled the Moto 360 powered by Android Wear, set to hit stores Summer 2014. More will follow.

So will Google’s Android Wear fit into a smartwatch that can fit into and possibly even improve our daily lives?
