October 21, 2010 – Kenya’s P-Unit will get the chance to perform alongside Congolese sensation Fally Ipupa in Dar es Salaam next month as the Road to MAMA begins its trail blaze.

Together with Tanzanian rapper Joh Makini, they will launch what organisers call a ‘whirlwind party tour’ at the Maisha Club in Dar – ahead of the MAMAs in Lagos.

At the event on Friday, November 19, the musicians will be guided through by MTV VJ Vanessa Mdee and on the decks; DJ PQ and DJ Steve B of Tanzania will be representing.

The mini-concert in Tanzania is ‘one of two thrilling Road To MAMA events building up to the third edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain, which takes place in Lagos on 11 December 2010’.

The other stop on the way to the MAMAs is the Democratic Republic of Congo (a first) on Saturday, November 27.

Sam Ellangaloor, Zain Tanzania’s Managing Director has promised a showpiece event.

“The choice of Dar-es-Salaam as a venue of one of the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain is an indication of the positive impact that our local music genres such as Bongo are having in the continent. Zain Tanzania and MTV Networks Africa will work around the clock to ensure that this will be a showpiece event.”

Fally Ipupa, who won an award and even performed at the last MAMA event in Nairobi, is one of DRC’s most feted new artists, dabbling in hip hop to change the face of Lingala. Like the video below…

Fally will also be performing at the MAMAs in Nigeria, as will Daddy Owen – the first ever gospel artist to headline at the MAMAs.

The party at Maisha club kicks off at 8pm and tickets retail at approx Sh1,000 (Kenyan).
