‘Redemption Song’ animation released on Bob Marley’s 75th birthday anniversary

Bob Marley is celebrating his 75th birthday today.

Born on the 6th of February 1945, in Mile Nine Jamaica, Robert Nesta Marley rose to prominence on his message of love, peace, and unity which he shared in his songs. Among his greatest hits, is the track ‘Redemption Song’ which has received a revamp on the eve of his 75th birthday.  An animation was released on 5th February, as part of a year-long celebration for the diamond jubilee of Robert Nesta Marley.

Based on online reports, “The clip is the first installment of #BobMarley75, a year-long celebration of Marley’s birthday, who would have turned 75 on Feb 6th. Upcoming [projects] will be dropped throughout the year, encompassing music, art, photography + more.”  The animation features the Lion of Judah, Bob Marley strumming his iconic guitar, African royalty Crown Prince Haile Sellasie, Egyptian pharaohs as well as modern-day political icons including Malcolm X and Martin Luther King.

According to YouTube, the Redemption Song video was created by French artists Octave Marsal & Theo De Gueltzl. The breathtaking animation, featuring 2747 original drawings, uses powerful symbols to amplify the magnitude of the song’s timeless lyrics and importance in today’s world. It also highlights Bob’s contribution to the empowerment of black civilization, as well as his manifestation of hope and recovery for all mankind.

Despite passing away at the age of 36 in 1981, Marley is known as one of the biggest selling and most impactful reggae acts of his time.  With more than 75 million records sold world wide, his music was used to bring together warring factions, and encourage unity. Marley received United Nations Peace Medal of the Third World in 1978   and was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. He even received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2001 Grammys for his music, and influence in creating world peace.
