Grammy-winning artist John Legend has been announced as the headline performer for the 2025 edition of Move Afrika, a pioneering music touring initiative expanding to include Nigeria alongside Rwanda.
The All of Me hitmaker is set to perform in Kigali, Rwanda on the 21st of February, 2025 and Lagos, Nigeria on the 25th of February, 2025.
The tour, spearheaded by Global Citizen, aims to redefine live music in Africa while driving economic growth, creating jobs, and fostering entrepreneurship for young Africans.
Move Afrika will also advocate for sustainable development, focusing on strengthening health systems across the continent. Through collaboration with campaign partners, the initiative will push for increased health financing, prioritisation of primary care, and sexual and reproductive health rights while alleviating financial burdens on public health systems.
John Legend expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m honoured to perform in Kigali and Lagos as part of this incredible initiative that empowers young people and uplifts Africa’s music and creative industries. Africa has always been a cultural powerhouse, and I’m thrilled to contribute to its future.”
Hugh Evans, Global Citizen CEO, noted, “Move Afrika’s expansion reflects our commitment to equipping Africa’s vibrant youth with opportunities in the live music industry while investing in infrastructure that places the continent firmly on the global touring map.”
Building on the success of its 2023 debut in Rwanda, headlined by Kendrick Lamar, the 2025 tour will showcase Africa’s creative talent while addressing pressing development needs.
