Sofiya Nzau’s triumphant takeover of the music scene is something straight out of the history books. Her breakout hit ‘Mwaki’ has been making ripples the world over, with top-of-the range DJs remixing it multiple times.
The stunning star has a new hit on her hands, a collaboration with her now manager and renowned DJ-cum-producer Fully Focus. The track dubbed ‘Mwanake’ is a re-imagination of popular Benga artist JB Maina’s smash hit of the same name.
The song bears two sets of visuals – a lyric visualizer and a stunning music video – both of which are spectacularly executed and give the song a fresh, cutting edge.
Keen music buffs are likely to walk down memory lane to when yet another music star, Wyre, remixed this same cultic classic Kikuyu hit more than a decade ago. Famed for its catchy nature, the song explores the themes of love and marriage, advising against those who are averse to marry a spouse who comes into the picture with a child (children) from a previous relationship, advising that marrying a partner without children is not necessarily tantamount to marriage success.
Nzau has been working with Fully Focus’ Passport Music Group, while ‘Mwanake’ is a cut from Focus’ latest EP – ‘Kikuyu House’.
With a whopping 4, 118, 559 million listeners, Nzau takes the lead as the most listened to East African artiste on Spotify.
