Owirri, a Nairobi-based Afro-soul artist, has announced the release of her long-awaited debut EP, What Love Looks Like (Pt. 1), dropping on September 23rd. The six-track project, led by the intoxicating single “Body Language,” invites listeners into a journey of healing, culture, and romantic reflection.
A project steeped in vulnerability, bold storytelling, and sonic exploration, What Love Looks Like marks the beginning of a new chapter for Owirri. Through a fusion of R&B, soul, and Afro-pop, the EP paints vivid portraits of love at its fullest bloom.
About What Love Looks Like
Journey of self-discovery, cultural roots, and identity.
“What Love Looks Like reflects the romantic experience of an African woman navigating love in a modern world. I created it in a season of self-discovery, a process that left me raw but also gave me healing as I uncovered more of who I am and what love means to me. My cultural roots are woven delicately into this project, shaping its sound and spirit. Through these songs, I hope to affirm that our experiences are valid, beautiful, and worth celebrating, even in their complexities,” Shares Owirri.
She adds: “The message I want to share is one of authenticity: to embrace our ways of life, our unique perceptions of beauty, and the ways we show love in African spaces. Because love is rarely expressed fully in words alone, it calls for intention, presence, and truth.”
Part I of What Love Looks Like captures the sweetness, tension, and joy of love in its fullest bloom, told through the lens of a young African creative embracing culture, romance, and soft rebellion.
A message to take home: Love is universal but personal. Everyone’s version of love is valid, and there is no “one box” definition of what love should look like. By being raw, vulnerable, and authentic in my music, I hope others feel less alone.
