Safaricom warns job seekers on customer care vacancies scam

?

Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore announced on Friday, 2nd Sept that the mobile telco will be hiring 600 customer care representatives to be deployed in their call centres. While many so the job opportunity, others saw an opportunity to make a quick buck by conning thousands of job seekers.

The company has issued a statement warning Kenyans not to make any payments for the call centre interview.

“Safaricom never requests anyone to send money for interviews,” clarified the statement signed by Stephen Chege, Director, Corporate Affairs.

“We have launched investigations into the matter and are working with the police on this. The M-PESA PayBill number involved in this issue has been suspended,” adds the statement.

The mobile operator says all vacancies are listed on the career portal where all job applications must go through.

Safaricom has embarked on a decentralization strategy which will see more jobs created or moved to Safaricom regional headquarters based in Mombasa, Nakuru, Nyeri and Kisumu.
