A Taste of Kenya: Sunday Brunch at Pullman Hotel Nairobi Upperhill

This past Sunday, I had the pleasure of attending the first-ever Kenyan-themed brunch event at the newly opened Pullman Hotel Nairobi Upperhill, a premium hotel under the Accor group. The experience was nothing short of a vibrant culinary journey through the diverse regions of Kenya, a country rich in culture and cuisine.

As I walked into this realm of elegance and sophistication, I was immediately struck by the atmosphere. The staff, dressed in colorful Kenyan outfits, warmly welcomed guests with a cocktail, setting the tone for a truly authentic experience at the all-day brasserie dining restaurant – The Dispatch. The décor, a harmonious blend of beautiful colors and traditional Kenyan elements, provided the perfect backdrop for the feast that awaited us.

As I moved from one station to another, I couldn’t help but appreciate how each dish told a story, reflecting the traditions and cultures of its region. Mt. Kenya offered a taste of the highlands with dishes like mukimo, a flavorful mashed potato and vegetable dish, and succulent roasted goat meat at the steak area. The Lakeside region brought the freshness of Lake Victoria with delicious tilapia dishes, including fish cooked in a rich coconut sauce and served with traditional accompaniments like ugali (both brown and white).

The Coastal region was a feast for the senses, with an array of Swahili dishes that were both fragrant and delectable. From spicy pilau rice to coconut-infused chicken curry and sweet, sticky mandazi, each bite transported us to the sun-soaked beaches of Kenya’s coastline. We also enjoyed plenty of nyama choma (grilled meat), seasoned with a blend of local spices, accompanied by kachumbari, a fresh tomato and onion salad. There was plenty of food, and absolutely fresh, tasty and delicious. The chef did a very good job.

This brunch (12 pm to 4 pm) which is held every last Sunday of the month, was more than just a meal; it was a celebration of Kenya, and I eagerly look forward to their next event. For anyone looking to experience the true flavors of Kenya in a luxurious setting, this brunch is an absolute must.

Pullman’s entry into the Kenyan market a few months ago, signals a new era of well-balanced hospitality, attracting discerning travelers and bolstering the country’s tourism sector. Kenya’s vibrant culture and natural beauty make it an attractive destination for local and international tourists.
