Coster Ojwang Launches Podcast Series Celebrating Kenyan Music and Art Culture: “Mbaka: The Boiling Pot”

Acclaimed Kenyan singer-songwriter and visual artist Coster Ojwang has officially announced the launch of his new weekly multilingual podcast series titled MBAKA: The Boiling Pot — a first-of-its-kind audio-visual platform dedicated to celebrating, analyzing, and archiving contemporary Kenyan Music and Art Culture

Hosted on his “Coster Ojwang” YouTube channel, MBAKA: The Boiling Pot serves as a creative and intellectual hub for fans, artists, and cultural enthusiasts. MBAKA offers deep storytelling, rich musical dissection, and intergenerational dialogue — aiming to bridge the gap between traditional African artistic expression and modern digital audiences.

“Kenyan music carries profound meaning, layers of history, and emotion that rarely receive sustained attention. MBAKA is here to change that — to create a space where art, memory, and identity converge,” said Coster Ojwang, the creator of MBAKA: The Boiling Pot.

A Platform Rooted in Authenticity

Hosted by Akello Lolo, the only female vocalist at Coster Ojwang’s Fisher’s Band, MBAKA has so far featured local musicians, artistes and content creators since January 28, 2026. In the inaugural Episode 1: Mbaka features Mordecai Dex, a member of KODONGKlan and H_ART The Band. Costser known for his distinctive fusion of African rhythms and soulful storytelling, brings his artistic depth and multidisciplinary background to this new venture by having convesations with Dex about how they met and their take on local music.

With over 2 million global streams, three major albums, and timeless tracks such as JowiWabiroManyo Pesa, and Nyachula, Coster has become a defining voice in preserving and evolving Kenyan sound an attribrute that comes to the fore in the second Episode as he talks about his stage performance and chemistry with SERRO.

The podcast’s title — MBAKA, a Luo word for stories thus the tag line depicts some boiling or simmering stories — symbolizes transformation, creativity, and the blending of divergent cultural elements in Kenya’s vibrant music scene.

Each week, MBAKA: The Boiling Pot already features:

  • Artist interviews and in-depth song analyses that explore context, meaning, and technical artistry.
  • Fan conversationsdiaspora spotlights, and interactive storytelling that strengthen community connection.
  • Archival documentation preserving local music heritage for future generations.

Why MBAKA Matters

Kenya’s creative industry is thriving with young, expressive artists, yet much of its contemporary soundscape lacks structured critique, preservation, and contextual understanding. MBAKA: The Boiling Pot addresses this gap — providing a thoughtful space that celebrates African musical ingenuity beyond trends.

“We are reclaiming the power of narrative — moving from hype to heritage. Kenyan music deserves not just applause, but analysis and understanding,”added Coster.

Seadon 1 12-episodes of MBAKA: The Boiling Pot runs from January to June 2026, featuring episodes in English, Kiswahili, and Dholuo, with subtitles for global audiences. The content will be available on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and local digital media partners.
