Imagine a perfect Sunday brunch, where the sun gently kisses your skin, the soft sound of ocean waves lulls you into relaxation, and you’re sipping on mimosas and cocktails. Dreamy, right? Well, that’s exactly the scene in Malindi, where brunch by the beach becomes more than just a meal; it’s a symphony for the senses. And as they say, if it’s Sunday, it’s definitely brunch!

While staying at Lion in the Sun Resort, I decided to break from my usual Sunday à la carte routine and head over to Billionaire Resort for their renowned Sunday brunch. My friends, locals of Malindi, had been insistent: “If you’re in town, you must experience brunch at Billionaire’s.” So, why not?

A quick three-minute stroll took me to Billionaire Resort’s Beach Bar & Grill, where the weather was ideal—sunny with just the right amount of breeze. It was definitely one of those “shorts and big sunglasses” kind of days.
The outdoor setup was a perfect beachside good vibes—white linens, fresh flowers, and seating that seamlessly flowed into the sandy shores. The ocean was just a few steps away, so naturally, I kicked off my shoes and let my feet sink into the warm sand. My appetite had kicked in, and I couldn’t wait to dive into the coastal feast that awaited.

The buffet was a good spread, different table set ups —freshly grilled prawns, lobster, and calamari alongside tropical fruit salads bursting with vibrant flavors. There was a distinct Swahili influence throughout the spread, from the coconut-infused curries to the decadent fish soups, and of course, the freshest seafood that tasted like it had been plucked straight from the ocean.

One feature that stood out was the “pass-around” selection. Certain dishes, once chosen, were brought to the table repeatedly until you signaled to the waiter that you’d had enough. The rest of the food was self-serve, allowing guests to grab their portions from the beautifully laid-out buffet. One notable difference from Nairobi brunches, though, was that free-flowing prosecco or mimosas weren’t part of the package—you had to order drinks separately.
As I savored every bite, a DJ filled the air with smooth, beachy tunes, perfectly complementing the vibe. Nearby, day beds were set up right by the beach, and after brunch, my friends and I made our way over to lounge with cocktails in hand, gazing out at the serene ocean views. It was the ultimate definition of relaxation.

As the afternoon lazily stretched on, with the sand between our toes and cocktails still flowing, I realized that this was the kind of Sunday brunch that left you both entirely spoiled and perfectly content. It’s ideal for food lovers, beach enthusiasts, or anyone seeking a serene Sunday escape.

Between the incredible food and the sound of gentle laughter, I was reminded why Sunday brunches are so special. They’re slow, unhurried, and meant for savoring both the food and the moment. With the waves crashing nearby, the experience was nothing short of pure bliss. Billionaire Resort had truly outdone itself—not only with the food but in crafting the perfect seaside escape for a Sunday well spent.
