5 Marie Kondo-Approved Tips to Keep Your Home Looking Neat Even if Organization is Not in Your Genes

Just the sole fact that we actually live in our houses, our homes are bound to get messy whether we like it or not. The house will always get dusty, the trash can will always have some trash and the dishes will always need to be washed. Of course, we cannot always be cleaning because we have a life to live but leaving chores to pile up may leave your home looking like a hot mess and we know that untidy spaces tend to affect one’s life quality.

If you’ve been around for a while and have access to Netflix, then you may have happened upon the organizing guru Marie Kondo’s shows: Tidying up with Marie Kondo and Sparking Joy with Marie Kondo. Marie Kondo is best associated with her KonMari method which is the globally admired teaching that encourages us to tidy mindfully by only keeping items that bring joy into our life.

The KonMari method is a famous home organizing method that will ensure your house looks organized at all times and without much effort. Here are the 5 Marie Kondo-approved organization tips.

1. Find a home for every item

Ensure that you only have things that you need, use, and spark joy in your heart, in your home. There’s no need to let things that don’t really matter to you take up space.  After keeping only the things that matter to you, find a permanent home or place for each item. This way it will be possible for you to keep track of what you own and it will be easy for you to look for whatever you need.

2. Introduce “drop zones” around the home

Getting home tired and depositing bags and leaving shoes anywhere is a very normal thing that we are all guilty of. So it is best to create random “drop zones” which may be areas prone to dumping but since the dropping zones help hide clutter, they are the sure way to go if you need your house to stay neat.

The concept of a “drop zone” ensures that messes are contained and kept off the floor while knowing exactly where things are regardless of how tired you feel when you get home.

3. Declutter your closet

Marie Kondo advises to group items according to their category and length. Itemizing things also require that you declutter unnecessary things. For example, decluttering clothes can help transform your linen cycle and laundry closet cycle which means that your closets will always have space making it easy for you to always put your clothes away immediately.

4. Create an organized storage system

One reason things don’t get put away in their rightful places right way is because putting things away is a hard chore or there’s a high chance you have no idea where to put them. Having accessible storage ideas especially close to where the said items are likely to be utilized will help make your life easier.

Categorize items so that you can find them easily while also being sure where to put them back. Containers with labels will help identify where things go even if somebody else is putting them away …until it becomes an effortless habit.

5. Devise an evening routine that will help you to maintain order

One secret to keeping your space looking organized is having a routine. You can maintain order by perfecting little, daily habits like ensuring everything is put in its rightful place before going to bed. This will ensure that you start the following day in the best way, and in a tidy house.
