Controversial Kenyan artist Willy Paul is back at it and this time he is beating his chest about taking East African music to the next level.
In a recent Instagram post, he bragged that only he [Pozze] and his idol Diamond could take East Africa music a notch higher.
While promising to take on this challenge, he imagined steering East Africa’s music together with Diamond drawing parallels with Davido and Wizkid, the two Nigerian artists who put Afrobeats on the world map.
Willy Paul has adored Diamond and always longed to do collabos with him. In fact, Diamond has seemingly influenced Willy Paul’s style of making music. The ‘I Do’ hitmaker has severally been accused of copying the Tanzanian superstar’s fashion sense, music style and video concepts.
For Willy Pozze, any publicity is good publicity, particularly for the singer. The artist has performed stunts, chased social clout, and is a professional scandal-making. The more he has chased after fame, the more controversy has become his second name.
Unlike Willy Paul who has fumbled his way through Gospel, secular music, and clout seeking, Diamond is an ace singer of Bongo Flava. Willy Paul had been rumored to be on Diamond’s new album ‘First Of All’ which would have made his collabo dreams come true but following the release of the project, this was all but a dream.
The idea of Willy Paul carrying Kenyan music on his shoulders feels preposterous. For long enough, the Afro-pop group Sauti Sol has been repping for the nation and have clinched its place in fans around Africa.
Even when all dreams are valid, Willy Paul must put in all the work to gain acceptance at home before the acclaim in East Africa.
