intervarsity-law

This tournament will only invite law faculties that have been accredited by the Council of Legal Education to promote quality of the competition. During the event, students will also receive mentorship from prominent personalities in the legal fraternity and interact with local organisations and law firms for internship opportunities.

The event encourages students to interact and exchange ideas about social aspects of our community and the law.

The 2016 tournament series will be the inaugural tournament and will take place over two days on 26th and 27th February 2016 @Strathmore Law School. In this series, TEN local Law Faculties will be competing amongst each other on various tracks. The aim of the event is to make the tournament accessible to as many law students as possible.

The theme for the 2016 tournament will be Leadership and Integrity.  The theme will embody the contemporary social issues in our community and how our leadership and integrity plays a role in finding solutions to these issues.  The following accredited law schools will be taking part:

  • African Nazarene University School of Law
  • Kabarak University Law School.
  • Kenya School of Law

The tournament will see these Law Schools compete along three tracks:

  • Public Speaking; Impromptu and unstructured

The topical angles we intend to use are based on the theme are as follows:

  • Corruption
  • The ICC
  • Terrorism
  • Politics and the law
  • Electoral and Voting systems
  • The constitution
  • The Judicial system
  • Crime

The total number of participants who will be taking active part in the tournament will be two hundred and forty five (245) students. The participating institutes are encouraged to provide logistics for other student supporters to cheer on their peers in the tournament.

Hon. AG Githu Muigai is expected to open the debate challenge Friday 26th February 2016 @9am before the students dispatch to the 16 ‘courtrooms’ to begin the debate competition.
