Ethic’s upcoming Hype Fest performance has been canceled.
Music group Ethic took Kenya by storm with their vulgar hit song ‘Lamba Lolo’ last year. The fame led them to work with music trio The Kansoul in a song titled ‘New Position’. However, these young stars have not shown an ounce of ‘ethics’ as their name suggests and have been embroiled in one controversy after another.
Yesterday, the group’s upcoming performance at the Hype Fest concert slated to be held the 27 and 28th of April 2019 was canceled due to the on-going legal issues pertaining to the group and thus will not be performing at the concert.
This announcement was made via the Hype Fest social media platforms but the group did not take the announcement too kindly and went ahead to bash the concert organizers by telling them to “fika bei” which loosely translates to mean ‘level up.’

One of the main organizers is Kitawi Mwakitele is the group’s former manager and therefore it does not come as a surprise that the concert line up deal has gone sour. Teleh as he is popularly referred to and the ‘Instagram’ hitmakers have previously been at loggerheads with the group reported having made side deals for less than their agreed rate card. As news of this reached Teleh, it did not go well with their former manager who had invested in them right after they became popular. This led to the group members throwing words at their then manager, later escalating to become a legal matter.
Recently as reported by The Sauce, the Coke Studio Africa 2019 artists were caught up in a Twitter storm as group member Swat was caught in an alleged ‘theft’ scandal after a video of one of the alleged robbery attempt went viral. In the video members of the public threatened to cut off Mtoto wa Eunice’s dreadlocks and call his mother.
As much as the talented bunch appeal to a wide range of youth audience with their music, they are known to be crass, vulgar and indisciplined.
Hype Fest is set to bring together one UK artist, one Jamaican artist, one Nigerian artist to the +254, as well as over 10 Kenyan artists and DJs all in one stage. Other confirmed Kenyan performers include 2 in 1 hitmaker Naiboi, famed drummer Olive Karmen, hit-making trio The Kansoul and award-winning rapper Khaligraph Jones.
