The Seven: Upcoming mega blockbusters worth watching in 2019

The second half of the year 2019 is fast approaching and as much as we have already seen some of the biggest blockbusters yet, there more movies coming to the big screen worth watching.

Movie fans have so far been loving the recently released films like Aladdin, a live-action remake of the Disney animated film with the same name as reported by The Sauce. The female-fronted Captain Marvel made great strides on the box office after its release on the 27th of February 2019. The final instalment of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Endgame was released in April and it broke box office records in its first week according to The Sauce.

Other most anticipated movies that have since been released are John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, horror film US starring Kenyan Hollywood star Lupita Nyong’o and  Pichaku the Detective. Comedy-dramas, What Men Want starring Taraji P. Henson and Little starring Blackish star Marsai Martin as well as Regina Hall.

From superhero flicks to live-action remakes of the Disney cartoons you loved as a kid, here are 7 of the most anticipated movies of 2019.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix  (June 7th 2019)

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics X-Men characters, produced by 20th Century Fox and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the twelfth instalment in the X-Men film series, a direct sequel to X-Men: Apocalypse and the seventh and final instalment in the main X-Men series. The film is written and directed by Simon Kinberg and stars an ensemble cast featuring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men must face the full power of the Phoenix after a mission goes wrong.

Men in Black: International is an upcoming American science fiction action comedy film directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. The film is a sequel to the Men in Black film series, which is loosely based on the Malibu/Marvel comics of the same name by Lowell Cunningham. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Liam Neeson, with Rebecca Ferguson, Kumail Nanjiani, Rafe Spall, and Les Twins appearing in supporting roles. Emma Thompson also reprises her role from Men in Black 3.

Spider-Man: Far From Home (July 2nd 2019)

Spider-Man: Far From Home is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. It is intended to be the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and the twenty-third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Jon Watts, written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, Marisa Tomei, and Jake Gyllenhaal. In the film, Parker is recruited by Nick Fury and Mysterio to face threats from another dimension while he is on a school trip to Europe.

The Lion King  (July 19th 2019)

The Lion King is an upcoming American musical drama film directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. It is a photorealistic computer animated remake of Disney’s traditionally animated 1994 film of the same name. The film stars the voices of Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Billy Eichner, John Kani, John Oliver, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, and James Earl Jones.

Hobbs & Shaw (August 2nd 2019)

Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw is an upcoming 2019 American buddy cop action film directed by David Leitch and written by Chris Morgan. It is set to be a spin-off from The Fast and the Furious franchise featuring two characters, Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw in the leading roles. The film will star Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, and Helen Mirren and is scheduled to be released on August 2, 2019, by Universal Pictures.

Frozen II (November 22nd 2019)

Frozen II is an upcoming American computer-animated musical fantasy film in production by Walt Disney Animation Studios, and is the sequel to Frozen (2013). The film features the returning voices of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, and Santino Fontana along with the new voices of Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown. It is scheduled to be released by Walt Disney Pictures on November 22, 2019, in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D formats.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (December 22nd 2019)

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is an upcoming American epic space-opera film produced, co-written, and directed by J. J. Abrams. It is scheduled to be released on December 20, 2019, in the US. The film will be the third instalment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, following Abrams’ The Force Awakens (2015), and The Last Jedi(2017), and the final episode of the nine-part “Skywalker saga”.The film’s ensemble cast includes Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams and Ian McDiarmid; the latter two return to the franchise onscreen for the first time since 1983’s Return of the Jedi and 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, respectively.

Other upcoming movies that everyone should look forward to are, Godzilla: King of the Monsters starring Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown on the 31st of May 2019, animated film Top Story 4 which will be released on the 21st of June 2019, Once upon a time in Hollywood starring two of the biggest actors in the industry, Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio on the 26th of July. Lastly, another X-Men movie dubbed The New Mutants which is slated to be released on the 2nd of August.
