The Seven: Hot and Poppin’ female Latina music stars you should listen to today

Latina music stars like Puertorican-American Jennifer Lopez and Colombian Shakira have dominated the music scene for years.

Genres like Reggaeton have become so popular that every international artist wants a feel of the upbeat dancehall and Spanish vibe in their songs. International stars like Akon recently collaborated with Becky G on ‘Como No‘ and the legendary Madonna collaborated with Maluma on ‘Medellin‘ for her new album  2019 ‘Madame X’.

Up to date, Reggaeton song Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Reggaeton legend Daddy Yankee released in 2017 is one of the most viewed YouTube videos of all time with 6.4billion views.

Here are seven young Latina singers to look out for.

1.Malu Trevejo

María Luisa ‘Malu’ Trevejo is a 16-year-old Cuban-born Spanish internet celebrity, dancer, singer and songwriter based in Miami, United States. She initially rose to fame on the app Musical.ly as a belly dancer at either 11 or 12 and now has more than 7 million followers.

On September 22, 2017, she released her debut single ‘Luna Llena’ through Universal Music Latin and the song has since acquired over 85 million views on her YouTube channel. One of her popular songs ‘Nadie Como Yo‘ ft Gente De Zona released in October 2018 has over 17 million views.

On August 2, 2019, Trevejo released a four-track EP called ‘Una vez más’.

2. Becky G


Rebbeca Marie Gomez also known as Becky G, is a 22-year-old American singer, songwriter and actress. Gomez first gained recognition in 2011 when she began posting videos of herself covering popular songs online.

Her official debut single, ‘Becky from the Block’ released in 2013 received a positive reception upon its release. In 2016, She released her first Spanish song, ‘Sola’ as the lead single from her Spanish debut studio album.

In April 2018, she released the hit single ‘Sin Pijama‘ with Dominican singer Natti Natasha, which entered the top five of the Hot Latin Songs, peaked at number one in Spain and the top 10 in several countries.  In July 2018, Gomez released ‘Zooted’,  featuring French Montana and Farruko, as her first English-language song in three years.

In 2018 she was also featured in Sean Paul’s track dubbed ‘Mad Love‘ alongside David Guetta. The song has amassed over 212 million views on YouTube.

3. Natti Natasha


Natalia Alexandra Gutiérrez Batista known professionally as Natti Natasha is a 28-year-old Dominican singer and songwriter. Her debut EP, ‘All About Me’, was released on March 28, 2012, by Orfanato Music Group.

In 2017, Puerto Rican singer Daddy Yankee released the song ‘Otra Cosa’ with Natasha. She released the single ‘Criminal‘, with Ozuna, which became an instant hit, reaching the top five of the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart and being the most-watched music video overall in 2017.

She has also collaborated with Becky G, Bad Bunny, R.K.M & Ken-Y, Thalía, and Cosculluela. Her debut album, ‘Iluminatti’, was released on February 15, 2019, by Pina Records and Sony Music Latin.

4. Karol G


Carolina Giraldo Navarro known professionally as Karol G is a 28-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer and songwriter. In 2013, she collaborated with Puerto Rican singer Nicky Jam and released the song ‘Amor De Dos’, which became very popular in Colombia and has reached over 100 million views on YouTube.

Her songs ‘Ahora Me Llama’, ‘Mi Cama’ and ‘Culpables’ have reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart.  In February 2019, she began publicly dating Puerto Rican rapper and singer Anuel AA and in April 2019 they got engaged.

She has won a Latin Grammy Award in 2018 for the best new artist with her song ‘Mi Cama’. In May 2019, Karol released the hit song ‘Love with a quality‘ with Reggae heir Damian Gong Marley which has since garnered over 40 million views.

5. Anitta


Larissa de Macedo Machado known professionally as Anitta is a 26-year-old Brazilian singer, songwriter, actress, dancer, and businesswoman.

She began singing at age 8 in a choir from a Catholic church in the Honório Gurgel neighbourhood in Rio de Janeiro. Anitta rose to national fame in 2013 after releasing the single ‘Show das Poderosas’, which reached the top of the Brasil Hot 100 Airplay chart the music video has been viewed over 130 million times on YouTube.

In July of the same year, she released her debut studio album which received a triple gold record certificate and platinum certification by ABPD. In January 2018, she collaborated with J Balvin on ‘Machika’. Two months later, she released another single in Spanish, titled ‘Indecente’. She was featured on the song ‘R.I.P. by Mexican singer Sofía Reyes alongside British singer Rita Ora. She also features on Madonna’s cover of the song ‘Faz Gostoso’ from her album Madame X.

Her fourth studio album, titled ‘Kisses’ featuring hits like ‘Banana’ and ‘Poquito‘, was released on April 5, 2019.

6. Leslie Grace


Leslie Grace Martínez is a 24-year-old Dominican-American singer-songwriter. Singing and dancing from a young age, Grace entertained them along with her five older siblings since she was two.

She recorded and released an independent Christian music album in partnership with CD Baby while in middle school. Her mainstream debut came with ‘Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow’, a bilingual cover of the 1961 Shirelles hit. Her bachata-tinged rendition peaked at number one on both the Billboard Tropical Songs chart and Billboard Latin Airplay charts, making her the youngest female artist to do so.

Her self-titled second studio album, ‘Leslie Grace’ in 2013, reached number four on the Billboard Latin Albums chart, and number three on the Billboard Tropical Albums chart.

She has released hits like ‘Diganle‘ with Becky G ft CNCO, ‘Dulce’ with Wisin and ‘Aire’ with Maluma.

7. Sofia Reyes


Úrsula Sofía Reyes Piñeyro is a 24-year-old Mexican singer-songwriter and actress. She was discovered on YouTube, the young musician, who started singing and playing the piano when she was under ten years old, would upload videos of herself covering songs.

This eventually managed to capture the interest of many, including Latin American singer Prince Royce, who went on to sign Reyes with his then newly created music label D’León Records.

In early 2016, Sofia released her third single ‘Solo Yo’, a heartfelt ballad and her first singing collaboration with mentor Prince Royce.

She released a song called ‘1,2,3’ along with Jason Derulo and De la Ghetto in 2018. A year later, Sofia created ‘R.I.P‘ along with Rita Ora & Anitta.
