Strathmore Chorale takes South Africa by storm

Strathmore University of Pretoria

The Strathmore university’s choir currently on a concert tour of South Africa that started on 23rd April has enjoyed a lot of cheers and applauses at their concerts. Led by their conductor Mr. Albert Apela, they started off with an evening concert in Queenswood in Pretoria where they did African- Christian music pieces from both Southern and Eastern Africa.

On 24th April still in Pretoria they had a joint concert with University of Pretoria’s TUKS Camerata that was in commemoration of 20 years of democracy in South Africa, the concert showcasing mostly secular music with a number of South African songs was well attended by Kenyans living in South Africa who appreciated the music and at some point sang along. It was an evening to remember!

Earlier in the day on 24th April the choristers paid the Kenya High Commission in Pretoria a courtesy call where they were received by the deputy high commission H.E. Amb. MrsGichuhi who lauded the university’s internationalization policy that helps students widen their horizon and perspective of the world. Accompanied by her staff she appreciated the students for being good ambassadors of the country to the world through music.

The choir has been well received in South Africa and has had many media interviews. “ I am happy with our concert tour, we are giving it our best ,it is a reflection of the great regard we have for South Africa” said Mr. Apela, the conductor at one of the media interviews.

The choir left for Johannesburg on Friday for the second leg of the tour, where they will launch their new 2014 uniform and also perform with the University of Johannesburg choir conducted by the world-renowned MrsRenetteBouwer.
