When Jonathan Mak Long, a design student from Hong Kong, designed a mash-up of Steve Jobs face and the Apple logo, little did he know the impression would go viral.
Jonathan posted the design on his Tumblr account getting over 180,000 likes in one day.
“Posting designs like this one makes me paranoid, because I can’t shake the feeling that it’s not original. I enjoyed the process regardless, but please let me know if somebody else beat me to the idea!” posted Jonathan in his blog.
It wasn’t long before companies offered Jonathan jobs, which he turned down until he finishes his studies.
But he couldn’t resist an invite by Ogilvy and Mather China to participate in Coca Cola ad project.
The design, part of Coca Cola’s “Open Happiness”, is meant to encourage users to share the drink.
Jonathan’s design is currently only in use in China but there is a possibility other markets might adapt it.
“It captures people’s attention. These kinds of images are quite appropriate to advertising. It takes a second to get, and then there’s an ‘aha’ moment,” Jonathan told the Nextweb
