Our number one priority when choosing a career or a job is the cash at the end of the month, especially if it’s your first job. But with time, other factors come into play like employee benefits, office environment, career prospects or work/life balance. There are countries that offer the best mix of employee benefits including high standard of living. Here is a compilation of the best countries to work in according to the OECD, mnn.com and the Atlantic.com

1. Australia

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) ranked Australia as the best country to work and live. Australians are generally a happy lot according to the survey done by the OECD, showing a higher than average standard of living. Australians work on average 1,693 hours a year, less than the OECD average of 1,776 hours. This allows workers to spend more time with family. People in Australia devote 60 percent of their day, or 14.4 hours, to personal care (eating, sleeping etc) and leisure. The line between gender roles in the country is blurred with men and women sharing duties both at home and in the office.
