Shallow reasoning leads Yale student to call the cops on a black student

Liverpool, UK: July 16, 2016: A marcher wears a label protesting Black Lives Matter during a march in solidarity in Liverpool to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Racial tensions continue to raise even in one of  America’s best university following an incident at Yale University where a student called the cops after finding black student sleeping in the building’s common room.

According to Fox News, “Sarah Braasch contacted police after finding the snoozing schoolmate, Lolade Siyonbola, asleep on in the common room at Yale’s Hall of Graduate Studies on the New Haven campus.” Stating that the sleeping student made her uncomfortable, Sarah Braasch made a call to the police thinking that she did not belong in the building.

The African student Lolade Siyonbola was shocked when she found herself confronted by the campus police who proceeded to question the graduate student 15 minutes after establishing she was indeed a resident at the dorm. According to graduate student Lolade, this was not the first incident where Sarah Braasch had made other students of color feel uncomfortable.

When approached by 4 police, Siyonbola narrated the experience that she shared on social media via Facebook Live. Following the incident, Fox News reported, “the officers who responded to Monday’s call interviewed Braasch as well and informed her that Siyonbola had every right to be in the common room,” Yale Vice President for Student Life Kimberly Goff-Crews said yesterday.

Yale News reported in March 2018 that “Yale currently has more than 100 students and 50 scholars from Africa, and Yale faculty members are participating in more than 150 research projects on the continent. ”
