Samthing Soweto Returns With Poetic New Single ‘Deda’ Ahead Of Upcoming Album

After a five-year musical hiatus, Samthing Soweto is officially back — and he’s leading the charge with a heartfelt new single, “Deda.”

The track, which is now available to stream and download, offers a powerful preview of his upcoming full-length studio album Touch Is a Move, Good Morning, which will be released on 4 July.

Written with his signature emotional depth and produced by John Lundun, “Deda” is a soul-stirring blend of poetry and electronic groove. The track draws inspiration from the Nguni proverb “mabudede ubumnyama buvele ukukhanya” — meaning “let the darkness retreat so that light may come.” Through this lyrical lens, Samthing Soweto paints the intimate portrait of loving someone who’s drawn to nightlife while quietly hoping for their safety. The result is a vulnerable, honest, and deeply moving song that marks a confident return for one of South Africa’s most beloved voices.

“Deda” follows the chart-topping success of “Amagents,” a double-platinum single that resonated across the country as a touching message from father to daughter. Both songs will feature on Touch Is a Move, Good Morning, the artist’s first album since 2019’s Isiphithiphithi.

The album’s title is drawn from two deeply personal rituals. “Touch Is a Move” reflects a childhood principle — once you touch a piece in a game, you must commit to the move. It’s a metaphor for decisiveness, risk, and growth. “Good Morning” speaks to a daily ritual Samkelo Lelethu Mdolomba began in 2023 — greeting his followers every morning with a simple “good morning” as a way to stay connected and grounded.

From his a cappella beginnings with The Soil, to crafting global hits like “Akanamali” and genre-defying projects like Isiphithiphithi, Samthing Soweto continues to evolve while staying rooted in authenticity. With Touch Is a Move, Good Morning, he invites listeners into a new chapter — one that begins with a greeting, a story, and the unmistakable sound of home.
