Samkelo Lelethu Mdolomba popularly known as Samthing Soweto is coming to Nairobi.
The Soweto born and bred crooner will be headlining the Thrift Social ‘Afro Chic and Masks’ edition set for November 15th at the Carnivore Grounds. Known for his unique sound that fuses Afro-pop, Amapiano and R&B, Soweto’s sophomore project released in 2019 ‘Isphithiphithi’ propelled him to the limelight garnering new audiences across the globe. The prolific album broke the record of the highest number of users “pre-adding” the album on Apple Music.
Heavily influenced by the Ladysmith Black Mambazo acapella group, Samthing Soweto has refreshed the distinct acapella sound, an experiment that his listeners are more than grateful for. He is expected to perform some of his biggest hits including ‘Akulaleki’, ‘AmaDM’ and ‘Nodoli’ this weekend on the Thrift Social stage.
The brother-sister duo of Velma Rossa and Oliver Asike started a dynamic street style culture blog that has become a social phenomenon amongst Kenya’s aspirational crowd. The two share a love of clothes and the arts resulting in their eye-catching street style photography and vintage shopping habit which went on to bring people together in a one-of-a-kind event. This led to the creation of Thrift Social Nairobi event, a platform that celebrates creative entrepreneurs in fashion, music, and art across the continent.
They have further extended our events to Brighton, London and Tokyo.
