Uganda has been selected by MTV Base to host the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) 2021 edition.
The awards are scheduled to happen in February 2021, and it will be the first time Uganda will be hosting such a big event. The gala brings together musicians from all over the world, however, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, organizers have confirmed the event will be done virtually.
The official invite-only launch event was held on Wednesday, 25th November 2020 and was graced by several top artists including; Sheebah Karungi, John Blaq, Daddy Andre and Bebe Cool among others. “Our artists are going to get a chance to improve on their talent and be known all over the world. They are to be mixed with other international stars and lift their careers,” Uganda’s Tourism Minister Godfrey Kiwanda said after attending the launch.

According to Daddy Andre, Uganda will gain massively from hosting the event, as it will help raise awareness of the pool of talent Uganda possesses.
“It is very good because it is a group distributing music worldwide, the best platform any artist needs. I think it is a big chance to work with them because the whole world will see you. So artists should use this chance to show that they are hungry for the international market,” Andre told journalists.
