On Repeat: 3 Bongo releases to set the mood this weekend

Bongo music has come a long way. And with the evolution is the development of new sub-genres with artists incorporating different genres and styles to keep things fresh and their audiences entertained.

Whether you enjoy a more laid back serenade or a club banger, Tanzanian artists have been consistently delivering new music and the fans are impressed.

Here are three artists whose recent releases have been on repeat, and we think they are definitely worth a listen:

Vanessa Mdee ft Rayvanny – Bado

Former MTV VJ and now award-winning act Vanessa Mdee has teamed up with fellow Tanzanian Rayvanny for the track ‘Bado’. The release has a unique sound combining electro-pop with bongo beats for a truly unexpected sound, new to the East African audience. The twosome makes for a sexy mix, with their vocals blending harmoniously in the quick-paced release. This is the first collaboration between Mdee and the Wasafi Records signee Vanny Boy; however, fans are already praying that it will not be the last. The track has garnered 60K views on YouTube, just hours after its release.

Hamisa Mobetto ft Whozu – Sensema

From video vixen to an artist, Hamisa has maintained her momentum consistently improving her craft. But better songwriting, sound quality, and a better-suited match, Mobetto presents ‘Sensema’, with Tanzanian act Whozu. The track is fun and seductive with some relatable and catchy lyrics. Though it is quite obvious that Hamisa is still using autotune to make up for the inadequacies in her voice, the East African beauty has definitely put her best foot forward. The track has gone viral garnering 500K views less than a week after its release on YouTube.

Lava Lava – Habibi

Lava Lava has been growing from strength to strength, and it’s easy to see why. ‘Habibi’ is another success story for the Wasafi Records artist. The track is a love song from the accomplished vocalist, which sees him serenade the love of his life. As the song goes on, it is difficult to ignore Lava Lava’s talent. He’s voice is golden.
