Popular Nollywood star, Ernest Asuzu who is also known as ‘El Cream’, has died at age 37.
His wife Jennifer Asuzu said the actor slept on Tuesday evening and never woke up. The actor came down with a stroke back in 2015 which affected his speech which led him to be off the screen for several years. In his last interview published in December 2020, Asuzu said his problem was spiritual and had plans to return to Nollywood after an eight-year hiatus.
According to the Actors Guild of Nigeria boss Emeka Rollas, Asuzu suddenly fainted.
Friends and fans of Asuzu spoke out severally against the government and Nollywood fraternity on behalf of the star. Many claimed that the Nollywood fraternity did little to help the star who had several medical bills following his stroke 6 years ago.
Asuzu began his acting career in the ‘90s and rose to prominence after he starred in the 1997 Nollywood classic, ‘Rituals’. Though acting was his first love, he was also a musician. Among some of his most popular movies are ‘Burning Desire’, ‘Royal War’, ‘Ogidan’ and ‘Never End’.
