We always wonder why Nigerians are distinctly different from other Africans. Whether it is their dress sense or loud and proud mannerisms, it is difficult to deny Nigerians have made their mark in every industry they make their way into. Here is a list of some of Nigerian natives who have made great contributions to the international entertainment industry.
Music Makers
Jidenna

Bringing back straight cut fashion and the well tailored suit of the 60s, Jidenna was born to a Nigerian father. He is the son of a Nigerian lecturer formerly at Enugu State University. His name is Igbo for “embrace the father.”
Wale

For those who can appreciate the lyrical prowess of Wale, it might be a surprise to find out he too is Nigerian. Named Olubowale Victor Akintimehin the talented rapper is a son of Yoruba parents that migrated from Austria. He grew up in America and fell in love with Hip Hop.
Sade

Her sultry voice and well written lyrics have been the soundtracks to special moments for many. Named Helen Folasade Adu, she was born in Ibadan to a Nigerian Economics lecturer and English nurse. She has sold over 25 million albums with 4 Grammy’s to her name.
Film Stars
Chiwetel Ejiofor

Known for his roles on major films like 12 Years a Slave and 2012 Chiwetel Ejiofor has been recognized for his talents. The British actor was born to Igbo parents. He began his career in 1995 after enrolling to the National Youth Theatre and gaining a scholarship to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
John Boyega

One of the biggest stars to get a break from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, John Boyega is a British actor born to Nigerian immigrants. His intrest in drama began at the age of 9 which led to him success landing roles on films such as Half of A Yellow Sun , shows like Law and Oder: UK and 24: Live Another Day .
Uzo Aduba

Headstrong and very talented, Uzo Aduba plays “Crazy Eyes” on the hit show Orange is the New Black. Starting off her career on Broadway and later making it on television, Uzo is the only Nigerian to win Emmys in both comedy and drama for the same character.
Sports Sensations
Dele Alli

Nigeria’s contributions to sports continue to rise internationally. Known for their love of football, it’s only natural that a few Nigerians make it to the best clubs. Dele Alii is a member of Tottenham Hotspur and a member f the English National team. Born to a Nigerian father and English mother, his football career began at the Milton Keynes Dons Club at age 11.
Hakeem Olajuwon

Hakeem Olajuwon is a 12 time NBA All-Star and 1st overall NBA draft pick in 1984 which included Michael Jordan. Born and raised in Lagos, Hakeem became the only player in NBA history to win the NBA MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and Finals MVP awards in the same season.
