Nigerian Rising Star Tems Offers A Beautiful Rendition Of Bob Marley’s ‘No Woman No Cry’ In Black Panther Sequel

Nigerian rising star Tems has been featured on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

Disney Music Group released a three-song Wakanda Forever Prologue EP which features Tems’ cover of Bob Marley’s ‘No Woman No Cry,’ plus Amaarae’s ‘A Body, A Coffin’ and ‘Soy’ from Santa Fe Klan. The three songs are produced by the film’s composer Ludwig Göransson.

A statement released by the film’s director Ryan Coogler and Göransson shed light on the EP. “This Prologue is an aural first glimpse of Wakanda Forever. The sound world for the film began with extended trips to Mexico and Nigeria. We spent our days working with traditional musicians who educated us about the cultural, social, and historical contexts of their music. We built a catalog of instrumental and vocal recordings with them that explored both traditional and non-traditional uses of their musical material. During the nights on these trips, we had recording sessions with contemporary artists who were akin to the characters and thematic material explored in the film.”

Kendrick Lamar curated and produced the soundtrack to the first Black Panther film, which featured SZA, Travis Scott, the Weeknd, Future, James Blake, Swae Lee, and others. Göransson won Best Original Music Score for his music from the film.

The first trailer to the highly anticipated Marvel film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was released over the weekend. The blockbuster featuring Kenya’s very own Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia will premiere on the 11th of November 2022.
