Nation Media Group, known for its work in print and electronic media is now diving into the record label business. Nation FM previously a popular radio station underwent major restructuring as the media company faced financial issues. According to an article in Business Today, “Nation Media Group reported a Ksh500 million drop in profitability for 2016, reflecting shifting trends that are depressing revenues for traditional media houses.”
According to a memo released this afternoon, the media house will be looking to new horizons with by establishing a record label. Nation Media Group announced the record label named Lit Music will begin with talent scouting, artist development as well as include music production, distribution, marketing, and promotion. The move is a new direction for the company in an attempt to diversify its portfolio. Among the artists already under Lit management are a host of gospel artists including Gloria Muliro, Rachael Adiyo, Hellena Ken and even Alex Munyiri.
Nation Media Group will be the first Kenyan media house to move into the record business.
