Mugabe Criminalizes Unregistered WhatsApp Groups In Zimbabwe

President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe has the internet shook with his latest policy.

According to a Press Release from the Zimbabwean government, the Ministry of Cyber  Security and Threat Detection and Mitigation announced new reforms for social media use in the nation. The strict policies require WhatsApp administrators to register with the ministry or risk criminal prosecution. Furthermore, WhatsApp group members who belong unregistered groups could also be prosecuted for their participation in an unlicensed group.

The new outlandish requirements have many online questioning how one of Africa’s most outspoken leaders plans to implement the new regulations. With new WhatsApp groups formed every day, the new policy will be quite the undertaking for the Ministry of Cyber Security.
