A Moi University, Eldoret Town campus student died of knife wounds after an altercation between him and a man he found in his girlfriend’s room turned tragic.
The student, Steve Wairimu, had gone to visit his girlfriend – a first-year student in the same institution – but found her in the company of another male student.
Steve confronted the man and fight broke out between the two. The girlfriend, according to sources, ran out to call the security officers at the off-campus Pioneer Roma hostels.
Students told the Nation that the male visitor went to the kitchen, picked a knife and followed Steve, who had then left the hostel.
“It was only when I was on my way to the security office to report the incident that I stumbled upon Steve writhing in pain on the stairs and bleeding profusely. That is when I discovered that he had been stabbed,” said Faith Bwire.
Steve died as officials of the student council and the hostel management rushed him to hospital. The suspect was apprehended by security officials but not before saving him from students baying for his blood.
Incidences of love affairs going south have been on the increase in Kenyan campuses. Last week, a UoN student killed her boyfriend over a facebook post.
