Mount Kenya University has opened a 10-storey building at its Thika Main Campus. The Chancellor’s Tower was commissioned a week ago to provide extra state of the art facilities at the campus.

The name of the tower was arrived at through a competitive process that involved all current and past students of the university. The students, encouraged by the prize money for best name, suggested more than 1,000 names. The Chancellor’s Tower reflects the apex position the Chancellor holds at the university, which mirrors the building’s stature in Kiambu County, and that of MKU amongst its contemporaries in the higher education arena. In addition, the Chancellor’s position at the university is perpetual, and so is the building with its rock solid foundation.

“As the tallest building in Kiambu County, The Chancellor’s Tower is emblematic of how MKU towers above other institutions of higher learning. Its erection was in line with the university’s Board of Trustees’ mission to provide adequate infrastructure for both teaching and non-teaching staff, so as to enable them dispense their duties,” said MKU Chairman Mr. Simon Gicharu

The Chancellor’s Tower has Staff offices, Lecture theatres, integrated Students’ sickbay, VCT centre, Emergency centre, Students’ rest rooms and a Conference hall.

The facility will enable MKU, as an institution of higher learning, to continue playing its role of developing human resource capital. Human resource development is one of the eight key sectors highlighted in Vision 2030 blueprint.

Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a chartered private university with 11 Campuses in Kenya, one in Kigali, Rwanda, and another in Hargeisa, SomaliLand.
