The interview included questions on the groups dynamics. The trio of Offset, Takeoff and Quavo calmly answered questions but ended up offending some fans over a badly worded answer. When asked “were you surprised by your reception in Nigeria,” Offset did not shy away from sharing his thoughts on Nigeria at a state and the legion of fans who came to see them perform.

Offset commented on the poverty in the city of Lagos saying “it is a third world country, there’s a lot of struggle in the city. So to see it first hand was amazing.” The ignorance continued on, as he gave a backhanded compliment confirming how excited the fans were throughout the show. Offset said, “they paid attention to everything, they be lookin’…they know every song, word for word and their English wasn’t that great. ”

Needless to say, the statement unwittingly starred uproar online as Nigerians took to social media to defend their command of the English language. Amid the controversy, the Georgia natives seem unaffected by the backlash, announcing an upcoming collaboration with pop star Katy Perry hours later.
