MabelMabel Suglo, 21 (Ghana)
Mabel is a social entrepreneur and a Development Studies student. Together with a friend, Mabel started Eco Shoes Project, an initiative that supports artisans with disabilities where she provides advice on product development, mentoring, financial and business literacy. Eco Shoes employs market-based restoration and works with local artisans with disabilities providing them a source of livelihood and giving them opportunities to escape from poverty.The business reinvests in the environment by using waste to create something of greater use and value and seeks to build a community of conscious consumers. This project today employs five people who are being paid fair wages for their work.

 

FaraiFarai Munjoma, 19 (Zimbabwe)

Munjoma is currently doing his Upper Sixth Form studies at Marist Brothers Nyanga in Zimbabwe. He has taken advantage of technology and broadband penetration on the continent by creating an educational website that addresses the need for information called Shasha iseminar. Shasha iseminar serves as an on-line library for notes, exam papers, questions and syllabi for any Zimbabwean secondary student. The project has so far received national coverage from 4 newspapers in both English and the native language Shona.
The success of Shasha has allowed for marginalised students from Tendanayi Government school in the rural District Nyanga to receive school fees from the proceeds from the project.

 

SirJeffSirjeff Dennis, 21 (Tanzania)

Sirjeff Dennis, born on Feb 7 1994 is currently a student at the University of Dar es salaam and the founder of Jefren Agrifriend Solutions (JAS). Sirjeff is among few young Africans who have beaten tremendous odds and has gone further to create jobs. JAS is a business venture that primarily deals with commercial poultry and vegetable farming, its products include chicken meat, eggs, vegetables and organic fertilizers. The project involves buying of day old chicks and rearing them under very acute veterinary supervision until they are ready for the market as meat for broilers and eggs for layers. The project has been an active source of good health, improved family nutritional intake and has contributed to overall food security within his community.

 

IbrahimHidaya Ibrahim, 21 (Ethiopia)

Hidaya Ibrahim is a recent graduate of New York University’s Abu Dhabi campus. She is passionate about quality education access in Ethiopia and is keen on using her knowledge to serve the wider Ethiopian community.
Hidaya co-founded Qine Association for Promoting Education Quality (QAPEQ) which organizes forums that bring representatives of governmental authorities and private educational institutions together with students, for a unique consultation on the quality of Ethiopian education.
It also runs free capacity building projects for students to help develop essential academic skills such as critical thinking, analytic research and writing.

 

Vanessa ZommiVanessa Zommi, 20 (Cameroon)

Vanessa started Emerald Moringa Tea project which manufactures and processes the Moringa plant into Moringa tea. Emerald Moringa Tea addresses the chronic increasing death rate of the Cameroonian population as a result of diabetes.
In Molyko, a town in the Buea region, Vanessa and her team have succeeded in putting Emerald tea in over 40 offices and surveys administered have proven that there has been a 5% to 25% increase in tea drinking. She has trained 15 aged people on how to plant, cook and replant Moringa for animal life and afforestation.Vanessa’s vision is to see the Buea community develop a tea drinking culture for a healthier and happier environment.

BlessingsBlessing Fortune Kwomo, 19 (Nigeria)

Blessing founded De Rehoboths Therapeutic Studio, which extends home-based healthcare through tailored family action plans for treating illness and addressing root causes to empower families to live healthier within the context of their surroundings. Her business exists to provide health care services for low income families.
Through this venture, Blessing employs three people in her community and impacts health outcomes for countless people within her community who would otherwise not afford healthcare services.
