Maseno Uni students get prepaid Master Card from Equity Bank

Kenyatta University a prepaid Mastercard card for its alumni body in 2013. Maseno students will be required to transact with the prepaid Card.

Equity Bank has launched a Master Card branded prepaid for use by Maseno University students as it intends to enhance management of funds among students.

The campus prepaid card will help the students to receive their HELB loans, reduce the risks involved in handling cash and embrace e- payment platform during transactions.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Academics at Maseno University, Prof. Mary Kipsat says the smart card will go a long way in making operations of the university very efficient.

Prof. Kipsat says the smart card will save students from carrying large amounts of money as that makes them prone to theft and indulging in impulse buying.

She says students will be required to pay school fees, access goods and services at supermarkets and other ATMs worldwide using the card.

Equity Bank’s Senior Manager Priscilla Owuor who attended the launch announced that the bank is on the path to partner with Kenyan universities to provide a secure card to students.

Owuor says the initiative will assist students to embrace saving culture and track their expenses.

The bank has leveraged on technology to offer improved cash management service, payment security and increased accountability aimed at improving efficiency and reducing operational risks in higher learning institutions.

In 2013, Kenyatta University a prepaid Mastercard card for its alumni body. The KU Alumni Card allows alumni to enjoy discounts with selected partners, ranging from hotels, bookshops and hospitals to insurance companies and mobile phone service providers.
