South London’s Afro-R&B star Maleek Berry has teamed up with Nigerian Afro-fusion sensation Ruger on his latest single, “Lately,” ahead of the release of his debut album If Only Love Was Enough, set for September 27th.
The track showcases their signature vocals and Maleek’s masterful production, further solidifying their place in the global Afrobeats scene. Maleek, who kicked off his album rollout with the single “Secrets” and a performance at New York’s AfroCarnival, has evolved from a renowned producer to a global artist. Inspired by the rich music culture of Clapham and icons like So Solid Crew, Maleek returned to Lagos in 2011 to produce for artists like Wizkid and Davido, becoming a key player in Afrobeats’ global rise.
Ruger, born Michael Adebayo Olayinka, has quickly made a name for himself since his 2021 debut, earning multiple accolades, including AFRIMMA’s “Best Male West Africa” and Soundcity MVP’s “Best New Artiste.” His debut album Ru the World debuted at No. 10 on the U.S. Billboard Reggae Albums Chart, and hits like “Asiwaju” and “Girlfriend” have solidified his global appeal.
