Kenyan indie filmmaker Kinyua Kamau has announced the premiere of his debut feature film, Nyūmba Ya Mbūri, which has been selected for the NBO Film Festival.
The film will be screened on the 25th at The Prestige Plaza Cinemas at 7:00 PM EAT and on the 26th at Unseen at 5:00 PM.
Nyūmba Ya Mbūri follows a group of hikers exploring the hidden treasures of Mt. Kenya, including Lake Ellis, Nithi Waterfall, and the historic Nyūmba Ya Mbūri caves, where Mau Mau freedom fighters once sought refuge. Kamau explains that the film’s title symbolizes the mountain’s mystery and rich history, inviting viewers to interpret its meaning personally.
The film features Stella Njeri Kaburu, a mountaineer and director of Mara Expeditions, making her film debut. With her background in tourism, she aims to share Mt. Kenya’s stories, highlighting lesser-known experiences tied to its cultural significance. “It’s essential to share these stories, as they connect people to the mountain’s beauty,” she states.
