The AFRIMMA Awards were held last night, broadcasting live from Dallas Texas.
The prestigious African Muzik Magazine Awards featured some key performances including Ugandan star Eddy Kenzo, Kenya’s very own Akothee and 2020 break-out star Master KG.The event was held virtually, due to travel restrictions imposed by the Coronavirus.
According to Mdundo, Nandy has emerged as the Best Female Musician in East Africa during the 2020 AFRIMMA virtual awards. Nandy was nominated alongside other musicians like Zuchu, Maua Sama, and Kenya’s Tanasha Donna.
While acknowledging the award, Nandy noted that the win was dedicated to fans who had voted for her.
On the other hand, Wasafi’s Zuchu emerged as the best new act in the continent. She noted that it was a big honor to grab the win just seven months in the music industry.
“Miezi 7 nyuma kabla ya kutoka nilikua najiongelesha kwenye vioo na spichi za ushindi wa tuzo. Imagine leo sio tena ndoto from fake mirror speeches to a real award speech Alhamdulillah. Asanteni sana East Africa mapokezi yenu ndo yameleta hii tuzo nawapenda sanaa ,” Zuchu posted on Instagram.
Elsewhere, WCB boss Diamond Platnumz was voted as the Best Male Musician in E. Africa.
Unfortunately, Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones and crooner Otile Brown lost out to in the ‘Best Male’ East Africa category and so did Sauti Sol who were nominated for the ‘Best African Group’ category in the 7th edition of continental awards. Sauti Sol’s track ‘Suzanna’ was also nominated for the ‘Song of the Yeat 2020’ award.
Kenya’s DJ Fully Focus was the only Kenyan to win, taking the award for ‘Best African DJ USA.’ Two other Kenyan deejays namely DJ Poison Ivy and DJ Shinski were nominated alongside him for the award.
