In Her Mama Era! South African Artist Sho Madjozi Announces Arrival of Her First Child

South African superstar Sho Madjozi has taken fans by surprise with the joyful revelation that she is now a mother.

The award-winning artist, whose infectious energy and bold style have made her one of the most recognisable figures in African music, has been missing in action the last couple of months.

The singer kept her pregnancy a secret until news of her baby shower leaked on social media on 15 July 2025, sparking speculation that she was expecting.

On the 15th of August Sho Madjozi who was born Maya Wegerif returned to social media with a series of tender images that told the story without words. One showed her proudly cradling her baby bump, while another captured the tiny hand of her newborn.

Her caption was short but full of emotion, telling her followers: “Yal go ahead and enjoy Friday without me. My dream to become a mom has finally come true.”

The news sparked an avalanche of warm wishes from fans, celebrities, and friends, all celebrating this new chapter in her life.

Known for hits like ‘Huku’, ‘Kunjani’ and the global sensation ‘John Cena’, Sho Madjozi has built her career on breaking boundaries, blending genres like Gqom, Afro-pop, and rapping in Swahili into a sound that is uniquely hers. Her vibrant Tsonga-inspired fashion and infectious stage presence have won her fans far beyond South Africa’s borders, along with accolades such as the BET Award for Best New International Act.
