How To Know When It’s Time To Replace Your Active Wear

If you’ve been visiting the gym for some time now and love working out, you know how important your active wear is.

Finding the right fit, deciding if it’s supportive enough and choosing the right color and pattern, it can be tempting to hang onto your beloved workout clothes for eons. After shelling out a pretty shilling it can be hard to let it go even when the logo is peeling off and the edges are fraying.

While the thought of parting with your favorite racer-back tank top (that gets you so many compliments at the gym) may seem unbearable, holding on to it can have a negative impact on your workout and could be damaging to your health.

Here are the signs you need to replace your workout gear.

Sports Bra

Sports bras are essential for women when it comes to exercising. Generally speaking, you should replace your sports bra, every six months to a year. How to tell that it’s time to toss them? If it fits worse than when you bought it, has an underwire that misshapen, has broken clasps or just looks old. Also tests the straps: if you can easily wiggle your fingers under them and feel a little resistance, it’s probably not doing its job properly.

Tops

Tops without built in bras aren’t meant to be supportive- they’re more for covering up or layering. Overtime, however, they will wear out. If it’s looking a little worse for wear- think faded fabric and fraying- that’s a pretty obvious sign that it’s time to move on.

Leggings and tights

Leggings and tights are more than just a fashion statement and one of the best things you can wear to the gym. As with all clothes, however, they will wear out. At the end of the day, how long they last depend on how well they’ve been made. If your leggings slide down while you’re working out, no matter how hard you pull them up, then you’ve worn out the elasticity.
Another important sign to watch out for and know it’s time to replace your tight collection deals with holes and see-through. Your leggings shouldn’t show everything when you squat. Sure some leggings intentionally have that see- through look mesh. But if you’re getting that mesh look that you didn’t pay for initially, it’s time to get new ones. Fortunately, leggings aren’t too expensive so you can easily get new ones, once your old ones have worn out.

Running shoes

Running sneakers provide your feet with support that you need when running, walking or using gym equipment. They won’t last forever though. How often you need to replace your shoes is dependent on the kind of exercise you do and how often you do it. When should you replace your shoes?
There some obvious signs: when your shoes “lean” to one side when on a flat surface, the foam on the side of the sole looks wrinkled, you wear holes in the upper part or the rubber tread on the bottom of the shoe is worn down to the foam. Do not wear them at that point- worn out shoes will not provide your feet the protection that they need.

Yoga Mat

It’s time to upgrade your mat when it’s no longer comfortable anymore, it’s surface starts to flake on you, it’s not gripping (your hands and feet are slipping when holding a posture) or if it has thinned out so much that it no longer provides enough cushioning.

If you haven’t gone shopping for workout clothes in a while, it’s high time that you hit the stores and get yourself a new pair of efficient workout clothes.

New workout items can invigorate and energize your exercise in the weeks and months to come.
